I’m Not Slowing Down - But My Body Started Sending Signals

It didn't happen all at once.

At first, it was small.

Less energy. Slower recovery.
That "off" feeling you can't explain.

Like a check engine light...

Something wasn't right.

he kind of thing you tell yourself is normal.
Until it isn’t.

I almost ignored it at first. Just a little less energy. A little slower than usual. The kind of thing you tell yourself is normal.

I'm 58. Senior project director at a construction firm. I manage seven-figure builds and thirty-person crews five days a week. I’m not the guy who slows down. Friday at 5 PM, I don't go home. I go to the garage.

The Harley has been my pressure valve for nineteen years. Two wheels, open highway, no emails, no Gantt charts, no one needing a decision. Just the engine and the road and the particular silence that only exists at 75 miles per hour.

I thought I was invincible on that bike. Then one Saturday morning on Route 66... My body sent me a check engine light I couldn't ignore.

The Breakdown That Changed Everything

That’s when it hit me… This wasn’t something you push through.

It was supposed to be a three-day run. Just me and four other guys I've ridden with since 2009. We stopped for fuel outside Amboy. I climbed off the bike and felt it — a tightness across my chest so sudden and specific it stopped me mid-step.

In that moment, one thought hit me harder than anything:

“What if this doesn’t go away?”

Not pain. Pressure.

Like someone had placed a hand flat against my chest and was slowly leaning in.

And for the first time in a long time… I wasn't in control.

And that’s not a feeling I’m used to.

I stood next to the pump and waited for it to pass.

Didn’t say anything. Didn’t tell the guys.

Just rolled my shoulders and told myself it was nothing.

Wind. Posture. Six hours in the saddle.

That’s what I told myself.

It passed in about ninety seconds.

I got back on the bike.

But for the next four hundred miles… I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

The Machine Knows Before You Do

Here’s what nineteen years of riding has taught me:

A Harley always tells you before it fails.

There's a sound. A vibration. A subtle change in the way she pulls through a turn.

You learn to read it.

And if you ignore it…

You don’t make it to the next stop.

Hands on Handlebars

The guys who ignore it — the ones who say "she'll be alright, let's push to the next stop" — those are the guys who end up calling for a trailer at 11 PM on the side of a dark highway.

I have never been that guy on my bike. But I had been that guy with my body for years.
And that realization didn’t sit well with me.

The Numbers I'd Been Ignoring

I didn’t want to know. But I also couldn’t ignore it anymore.

Back home, I finally made the appointment I’d been putting off for sixteen months.

My doctor didn't waste time.

That’s when I knew this wasn’t nothing.

Blood pressure: elevated.

LDL: high.

Not catastrophic.

But not where it should be either.

And then, because she knows I respond to data, she ordered a coronary artery calcium scan.

She called me two days later with the results.
I could hear it in her voice before she even said it.

CAC score: 241.

I didn’t even know what that meant.

But I knew it wasn’t good.

For the first time…

This didn’t feel like something I could just keep an eye on.

It felt like something I had to deal with.

And not later. Now.

Reading Medical Results

She explained the range. Zero is clean. Under 100 is mild. 100 to 300 is moderate. "241 puts you solidly in the moderate range, Ray. At your age and with your LDL, we need to talk about Atorvastatin."

I asked the question every man in that chair asks: "What does the medication actually do to the calcium that's already there?"

She paused.

That pause told me everything.

"Statins help prevent new accumulation.

The existing calcification...

that stays."

That didn’t sit right with me.

So the damage that’s already there…

just stays there?

I left that appointment with more questions than answers.

I started digging into it.

And the more I looked…

the less clear it got.

Some said medication was the only option.

Others said diet could help.

Some said supplements worked.

Others said they didn’t.

It felt like everyone had an opinion…

and none of it actually gave me a clear answer.

Eight Weeks On Atorvastatin

The leg cramps started in week three. Not soreness — cramps. The kind that wake you at 2 AM with your calf locked like a fist.

By week six, I was tired in a way that didn't respond to sleep.

A heaviness that sat behind my eyes all day. A fog that made the complex project decisions I make every day feel like I was thinking through wet concrete.

That was the moment I understood what I was actually losing. Not years off my life. The life in my years.

That’s when I made a decision.

I wasn’t going to trade one problem for another.

What I Found at 2 AM

At 2 AM, I did what I always do when something doesn’t make sense. I started digging. Trying to understand what was actually happening inside my body.

What I found surprised me.

Statins don’t actually deal with what’s already there.

They just slow down what’s coming next.

They do nothing about what's already coating the pipes.

And that’s where things got frustrating.

Because the more I looked…

the more conflicting it all became.

But then I started noticing something.

The same thing kept coming up… over and over again.

Not in ads.

Not in hype.

In actual research.

And what caught my attention wasn’t just that it showed up…

It was what the studies were actually measuring… and what they were showing.

Aged Garlic Extract.

Not regular garlic.

This wasn’t about cooking.

This was about what was already happening inside the arteries.

A specific form that’s been aged long enough to change how it behaves in the body…

When garlic is aged for a full 24 months, it converts into S-allyl cysteine (SAC) — a stable, water-soluble compound with 98% bioavailability.

Aging Garlic Crocks

The part that mattered wasn’t just that it showed up in research…

It was what it was actually doing.

Not masking the problem.

Not slowing it down.

But targeting what was already there.

Why I Chose Aged Garlic Extract

  • Full 24-month aging — not shortcuts. The full conversion process.
  • The dosage used in the actual studies — not a watered-down version.
  • Designed to absorb properly — because none of this matters if your body can’t use it.

Month Five. The Scan.

241 → 187.

Not slowing.

Not stabilizing.

Going down.

Man walking to Harley

I wasn’t guessing anymore.

I had data.

And for the first time…

It was moving in the right direction.

That’s when I knew this wasn’t theory.

It was working.

Open Road POV

If you're seeing the same signals I ignored…

This is what I used.

Same 24-month aged extract.
Same dosing used in the studies.

Nothing added. Nothing watered down.
